AMD buys software firm World Labs founded by ‘godmother of AI’ for $8.2 bn
NEW DELHI: Semiconductor giant Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced Monday that it has acquired artificial intelligence startup World Labs in a transaction valued at approximately $8.2 billion.
World Labs was founded by Stanford computer science professor Fei-Fei Li, a prominent researcher often called “The Godmother of AI,” who will now serve as an executive vice president (EVP) and chief scientist at AMD, working directly with the chipmaker’s CEO Lisa Su.
