IIT Bombay student found dead in hostel room after phone-use incident during exam

A 22-year-old IIT Bombay student died by suicide in his hostel room after he was allegedly caught using a mobile phone during an examination, police said on Saturday.

The student, identified as Sahil Ravindra Wakode, was a second-year BTech student in the Energy Science and Engineering department and hailed from Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district, police said.

According to a statement from IIT Bombay, Wakode had uploaded the examination question paper to ChatGPT to seek answers during the exam.
