From ‘hoax’ to ‘AI Force’: Has Trump changed his mind on AI guardrails?
US President Donald Trump said on Saturday (September 19) that his administration would form an “AI Force” and appoint a new AI czar, while reiterating his opposition to slowing the technology’s development. He urged “only high IQ individuals” to apply for the role.
Since returning to office in January 2025, Trump has proudly assumed one too many self-proclaimed titles like the “Peacemaker”. Among numerous issues that he’s put centre stage, the American leader has gone all-in on artificial intelligence while chasing national dominance, especially in a race against China.
