TR(AI) harder: Telecom regulator tightens norms to curb spamming
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has tightened rules to curb spam calls and messages, making telecom companies and businesses more accountable for Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC). The new rules allow quicker action against suspected spammers, regulate automated calls and give consumers the right to appeal against the resolution of their spam complaints.
TRAI introduced the Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference (Third Amendment) Regulations, 2026, on Friday after considering feedback from stakeholders during a consultation process that began in March.
