US could move to 32-hour workweek under new bill: What changes

Americans could eventually move toward a 32-hour standard workweek under a new bill introduced in Congress. The Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act, introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, and Rep. Mark Takano, D-California, would gradually lower the federal threshold for overtime pay from the current 40 hours a week to 32 hours.

The bill would not require employers to move workers to a four-day workweek. Instead, it would change federal overtime rules so that employers would generally have to pay a premium when covered employees work beyond the new weekly threshold.
