Tech Mahindra launches ‘Zero Gravity Telco Architecture’ for AI-native operations
Tech Mahindra on Wednesday launched its Zero Gravity Telco architecture, a strategic framework aimed at assisting telecom service providers in overcoming structural barriers to their AI ambitions and accelerating their shift towards AI-native, autonomous operations.
The architecture specifically addresses “Legacy Gravity,” a phenomenon where old embedded business logic and inconsistent data within existing systems hinder AI initiatives from integrating into core operations. By simplifying technology estates and establishing a shared, governed layer for essential business rules, the framework enables AI agents to operate safely and at scale.
The framework emphasises that successful AI deployment depends on building a robust foundation first. Operators that rush to deploy autonomous AI on fragmented systems often encounter higher costs, slower outcomes, and increased skepticism regarding AI’s value. The Zero Gravity Telco Architecture provides a structured approach to simplify technology environments and create trusted, governed data foundations, thereby unlocking AI’s full potential.
Central to this framework is the Zero Gravity Index, a diagnostic tool that helps telecom leaders assess their organisation’s readiness for AI-native transformation. This index also recommends a trajectory for moving from legacy environments to adaptive, intelligent operations, supporting the creation of scalable, agent-ready enterprises.
“The telecom industry is in its transformative era where AI is fundamentally changing how networks are operated, services are delivered, and customer experiences are created. But AI alone cannot be industrialised on top of unorganised legacy. The barrier is the gravitational pull of the existing estate,” said Amol Phadke, chief transformation officer, Tech Mahindra. “As telecom evolves from modernisation towards intelligence-led enterprises, the ability to organise meaning, context, and decision-making at scale will become the defining competitive advantage.”
Nik Willetts, CEO of TM Forum, also endorsed the framework, noting its alignment with TM Forum’s AI-Native Open Digital Architecture and emphasising that AI requires trust to move from pilot to production.
