82% of Indians now want AI in their phone, but battery is still the deal-breaker: Amazon survey

AI has stopped being a selling point and become a checkbox. Amazon.in’s first Best in Tech Survey, run in July 2026 with more than 40,000 responses, found that AI features now shape the purchase decision for 82% of smartphone buyers in India. What buyers actually want from it, though, is narrower than most launch keynotes suggest.

The fundamentals have not moved an inch. Performance and speed influenced 87% of respondents, battery life 79% and camera quality 77%.
