Nvidia releases AI model that can run on single GPU on a laptop or desktop

Nvidia has released Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, a lightweight, open-source artificial intelligence (AI) model that the chipmaking giant says is designed to run locally on a single graphics processing unit (GPU) inside a standard laptop or desktop computer. The release represents Nvidia’s first open-source model rollout since CEO Jensen Huang publicly entered the Silicon Valley debate advocating for open-weight AI architectures over closed, proprietary ecosystems.

According to a report by CNBC, Nvidia’s model is free to download, modify and deploy for commercial applications without licensing fees or corporate permissions, available directly via HuggingFace and Nvidia’s developer portal.
