Elon Musk at SpaceX’s first earnings call says data centers a ‘trivial problem’ compared to what company’s rocket engineers work on every day

Elon Musk has defended SpaceX’s growing investment in AI infrastructure. Speaking during the company’s first earnings call as a public company, Musk said building AI data centres is a “trivial problem” compared to the engineering challenges the company’s rocket teams solve every day. The remarks came after SpaceX spent nearly $16 billion on AI infrastructure during the second quarter.

Explaining why he believes SpaceX can expand rapidly in AI computing, Musk said, “We’re taking a small amount of the expertise that we use for rockets and satellites, and applying that to scaling terrestrial data centres.”
