PwC US CEO Paul Griggs has a blunt warning for companies writing large cheques for AI: the technology will not rescue a business that is already running badly. Speaking to Business Insider, Griggs said firms that bolt AI onto inefficient workflows end up in the same place they started, only with a costlier version of the problem. His line on it was direct—if you layer AI on messy processes, it will only show you how messy they are.

That was one of two misconceptions Griggs flagged. The other is structural, and he thinks it explains why so many AI rollouts stall before they show a return.
