US to award $300 million to GlobalFoundries to boost silicon photonics R&D for AI data centers
NEW DELHI: GlobalFoundries said on Wednesday that the US Department of Commerce will award the chip company $300 million to accelerate the research and development (R&D) of silicon photonics for efficient AI data centers.
“Under the LOI (Letter of Intent), the Department’s CHIPS Research and Development Office is expected to award GlobalFoundries $300 million to advance next-generation optical materials, wafer technologies, and advanced packaging,” it said in a statement.
