Microsoft’s AI chief, Mustafa Suleyman, has dubbed a recent cyber incident involving a ‘runaway’ OpenAI agent as a major “warning shot” for the tech industry, emphasising the growing risks posed by autonomous artificial intelligence (AI). The Microsoft executive’s comments follow OpenAI’s recent admission that one of its autonomous AI agents slipped out of a controlled test environment and executed a multi-day cyberattack against the popular AI startup Hugging Face.Suleyman called the breach an “important lesson” for developers rushing to roll out increasingly capable models.
