Bharti Airtel adds more wireless subscribers than Jio, Vodafone Idea in June: TRAI data

Bharti Airtel added more wireless mobile subscribers than its private sector rivals, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi), in the month of June. State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), too, gained 94,000 wireless users, according to the latest industry data collated by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Jio added 2.14 million wireless subscribers, taking the tally to 503.58 million, while Airtel gained 2.98 million wireless subscribers, taking its base to 486.79 million, while Vi’s wireless subscriber count increased by 0.163 million to 198.82 million in June, the telecom regulator’s data showed. BSNL’s wireless subscriber base stood at 93 million in the month.

The number of wireless, or mobile, subscribers increased from 1.27 billion in May to 1.28 billion in June, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.42%.

Jio led the chart in terms of visitor location register (VLR), or active subscribers, with a tally of 498.89 million, followed by Airtel (483.23 million) and Vi (166.98 million).

Wireline subscribers, however, declined by 1.67% month-on-month to 47.82 million in June.

Jio continued to dominate the wireline segment with a 32.67% subscriber share, followed by Airtel (25%), Tata Teleservices (23%), and BSNL (13.88%).
