HDFC Bank lays-off over 3,300 staffers as AI-tech reshapes businesses pace

HDFC Bank has cut staff for the first time in almost ten years, demonstrating how the biggest private sector lender in India is depending more and more on technology and artificial intelligence to change its business practices and employee responsibilities.

HDFC Bank’s workforce strength decreased by 3,343, or 1.56 per cent, to 211,178 in FY26 from 214,521 the previous year, according to the bank’s latest annual report. For the first time in nine years, the bank’s headcount has decreased.
