JEE ranker from New Town bets on math in age of AI
Rahul Konar has ranked fourth in West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination. He is quite certain of landing a seat in the computer science department at Jadavpur University. But the boy from Greenfield Heights is opting for IIT Kharagpur instead.
“They are offering a Bachelor of Science course in mathematics and computing. In the face of the emergence of AI, it is not enough to go for computer science. I need a strong foundation in mathematics too. My father, a computer engineer, feels this will be the top branch in near future. It will allow me to choose among careers in finance, AI and computer science,” said the boy, whose JEE (Advanced) rank is a highly creditable 1277.
