As US bans Fable 5 and Mythos 5, Anthropic shares a 700-plus word statement; says ‘we believe the government …’
Anthropic released a special version of its Mythos AI model — called Fable 5 — earlier this week, making some of the advanced capabilities of its tightly controlled Mythos system available to a wider audience. Days later, the US government ordered the AI company to suspend access to both Fable 5 and Mythos 5, citing national security concerns. Anthropic said it received the export control directive on Friday at 5:21 p.m. ET and immediately began disabling the models to comply with the order. Publishing a more than 700-word statement, the company said it disagrees with the government’s decision, arguing that the concerns relate to a limited “jailbreak” technique that exposed only minor, previously known software vulnerabilities and did not demonstrate capabilities beyond those already available in other leading AI systems.
