Indian telcos should stop providing free unlimited 5G-backed offerings: Analysts

NEW DELHI: Telecom operators should now stop providing free unlimited fifth-generation (5G)-backed offerings and start monetising higher data consumption on the latest networks, according to analysts at Motilal Oswal.

Currently, the top telecom incumbents – Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) – offer unlimited 5G data for free on prepaid packs of 2GB per day or more, with prices starting from ₹198-199. But with subscribers preferring to buy top-up vouchers to support data consumption needs, it has created headwinds for 5G monetisation.
