Uber layoffs: Company cuts 23% of HR and recruitment staff, says AI not behind move
Uber is cutting 23% of employees in its People and Places division, the department that handles everything from human resources to recruitment. The company announced the layoffs on Wednesday. The move comes as Uber looks to simplify how the department works under the leadership of newly appointed President Jill Hazelbaker.
In a memo to employees, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the changes were needed to help the company make the most of its opportunities going forward.
“The changes are necessary to maximise the effectiveness of the People team and the enormous potential ahead of us.”
