Vehicle-to-Everything communication

India’s roads claimed about 1.73 lakh lives and injured around 4.63 lakh people in 2023 alone. That grim number sits at the heart of a new consultation paper released by the Trai, which is now seeking to put in place a regulatory framework for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication — a technology that could change how vehicles, road infrastructure, pedestrians and networks talk to each other in real time, often faster than a human eye or brain can react.

The consultation paper dated April 30, 2026, was released by Trai following a formal request from DoT asking Trai to provide recommendations on the regulatory mechanism for V2X, covering spectrum assignment, authorisation and pricing for Roadside Units.
