Google, Telstra partner on fibre and subsea networks in Australia
Google and Australia’s Telstra announced a network-sharing deal on Tuesday under which Google will lease capacity on Telstra’s new fibre network while gaining access to Google-backed undersea cables linking Australia with the United States, Japan and Pacific islands.
Here are some details:
Google has selected Telstra and its new fibre-optic Aura Network to further advance its AI capabilities in Australia.
Google will secure inter-city dark fibre capacity on Telstra’s Aura Network.
The deal will also provide Telstra with additional undersea cable capacity to support growing demand for cloud computing and AI applications.
The integration will also reduce the risk of outages and “ensure continuous, secure data flows”, the parties said in a joint statement.
