WhatsApp to stop working on these Android smartphones

WhatsApp will no longer support Android devices running on older Android versions. According to a report by WABetaInfo, starting September 8, 2026, WhatsApp will stop working on smartphones running versions running older Android 6. Users will not be able to access WhatsApp on smartphones running Android version older to Android 6. This decision is part of Meta’s efforts to maintain compatibility with newer technologies and also make sure app’s security and functionality.

“WhatsApp is notifying affected users by displaying an alert as soon as they open the app. The message notes that starting on September 8, 2026, WhatsApp will no longer be available on specific versions of Android.
