OpenAI CEO Sam Altman broke his silence on Friday after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at his San Francisco home, publishing a blog post where he shared a photo of his family, reflected on his mistakes, and called for the AI industry to dial down the temperature.
“I am awake in the middle of the night and pissed,” Altman wrote, adding that he had “underestimated the power of words and narratives.” The post—part personal reckoning, part industry manifesto—came hours after a 20-year-old man allegedly hurled an incendiary device at the exterior gate of Altman’s North Beach residence at around 3:45 am. No one was injured.
