NEW DELHI: India’s 5G journey, despite its rapid scale, has yet to fully deliver on its transformative promise, with limited differentiation for consumers and muted returns for operators, said Deb Kumar Chakraborti, Member (Services), Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Speaking on Friday, Chakraborti emphasised that the next phase of telecom growth will hinge on trust, service innovation, and enterprise-led use cases rather than network expansion alone.

Chakraborti was delivering a keynote address at the ETTelecom 5G Congress 2026.
