Meta Platforms is reportedly preparing for sweeping layoffs that could affect more than 20% of its workforce as the company ramps up spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure and technology. According to Reuters citing sources familiar with internal discussions, senior leadership has begun planning potential staff reductions to manage rising operational costs and improve efficiency through AI-driven automation.

If the cuts reach the reported scale, they could affect thousands of employees across the company. Meta employed nearly 79,000 workers as of late 2025, meaning a 20% reduction could impact roughly 16,000 jobs globally.
