Device manufacturing sector creates 20 lakh jobs in India, says MeitY secretary S Krishnan
NEW DELHI: The device manufacturing sector, which also includes mobile phones and other categories, has created 20 lakh jobs in India, and there is a potential for further employment generation, said a top official of the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY).
“The story about end-use device manufacture in India has been primarily one of huge employment. More than 20 lakh jobs have been created in that sector, and more are likely to be created in the coming years. This is fundamentally because the final stage of manufacturing is the most labor-intensive part of the process, and there is a huge potential,” said S Krishnan, secretary, MeitY, at the inaugural ET Electronics & Semiconductor Manufacturing Summit 2026, being held in Bengaluru.
