Ericsson to set-up new Japan R&D centre in Yokohama, to hire 300 engineers for 5G, Open RAN

NEW DELHI: Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson said on Wednesday that its new innovation and research & development (R&D) centre in Japan will be situated in Yokohama, Tokyo.

The facility, when fully operational, will have 300 engineers and will develop programmable 5G networks, mobile technologies, and open network architectures, including Open RAN.

The recruitments are underway, and the facility is set to commence operations in April 2026, with the official inauguration scheduled for the first half of 2027.
