A blanket social media ban for kids won’t work for Al: UNICEF’s Thomas Davin
Blanket bans on children accessing social media won’t work in all countries, with their effectiveness depending on the development levels, and socio-economic realities of various economies, Thomas Davin, global innovation director, UNICEF told ET in an interview on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit.
Instead, school age children in many developing nations, including India need access to AI, and online services for their educational & economic security, Stockholm-based Davin said. Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had on Tuesday said the government is discussing the feasibility of age-based restrictions with social media firms.
