Ericsson, Leonardo successfully trial 5G SA-enabled maritime connectivity for Italian Navy
NEW DELHI: Swedish telecom kit vendor, along with Leonardo, has concluded a maritime connectivity pilot test using 5G standalone (SA) equipment for the Italian Navy.
The trial enabled connectivity between naval units engaged in a day and night training scenario on the open sea, said Ericsson in a joint statement on Monday.
An end-to-end Ericsson 5G SA network, comprising Ericsson Ultra Compact Core and Ericsson Massive MIMO Radio Access Network (RAN) gear and solutions, was installed on board the Italian Navy’s amphibious landing ship “San Giorgio”, which served as the lead unit during a recent experimentation campaign.
