Anthropic’s military test? Claude AI reportedly used by US during Venezuela operation

Anthropic’s Claude AI was reportedly used by the United States during a military operation to capture former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. The deployment of Claude was said to have been facilitated through Anthropic’s partnership with data analytics firm Palantir Technologies, whose tools are widely used by the US Department of Defense and federal law-enforcement agencies.

During the mission, Maduro and his wife were captured and several sites in Caracas were bombed. However, Anthropic’s usage guidelines explicitly prohibit Claude from being used to facilitate violence, develop weapons, or conduct surveillance.
