Telcos oppose Trai’s plan to block AI-flagged spam numbers

New Delhi: Telecom operators have opposed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (Trai) proposal on blocking phone numbers marked as potential spam by AI-based solutions, saying it would cause inconvenience and may end up barring many genuine users from the network.

Telcos are pushing for broader consultations before the sector regulator issues any final directives on the matter. They emphasised that a genuine consumer shouldn’t face hardship due to any “arbitrary or inadequately defined process”.
