Skyrocketing memory prices threaten telcos’ broadband expansion; Nokia, Ericsson see impact
NEW DELHI: The skyrocketing prices of DRAM and NAND memory modules, driven by surging demand from higher-margin AI and data centre segments, could threaten the supply of fixed wireless access (FWA) routers and set-top boxes (STBs) for telecom operators, according to the latest Counterpoint Research report released on Thursday.
RAM and memory chip costs have already surged 600% year-on-year for consumer applications, including computers and smartphones. In response, several handset OEMs, including Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Poco, have already raised prices in markets like India.
