New Siri not ready yet: Apple may push Google Gemini-powered AI features to iOS 26.5 or later
Apple has pushed back key AI features that were supposed to ship next month with iOS 26.4, after internal testing revealed the revamped Siri still isn’t ready for prime time, Bloomberg reports. The new Siri—powered by Google’s Gemini models and built on a fresh architecture codenamed Linwood—was meant to finally deliver capabilities Apple first promised in June 2024. That’s not happening on schedule. Engineers have now been directed to test the features on iOS 26.5 instead, which isn’t expected until May. Some capabilities may not land until iOS 27 arrives in September.
Bloomberg’s sources say the issues are pretty straightforward: Siri frequently mishandles queries, responds too slowly, and has notable accuracy problems.
