Telcos invest ₹4 lakh crore in 5G, subscribers to reach 1 bn by 2031, says Scindia
NEW DELHI: Indian telecom carriers have invested nearly ₹4 lakh crore in deploying fifth-generation (5G) networks nationwide, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia said in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
“As far as 5G is concerned, 5G networks are available in 99.9% districts of India today. About 5 lakh BTSs (base transceiver stations) have been deployed, and ₹4 lakh crore has been invested by our TSPs (telecom service providers),” Scindia said.
40 crore subscribers, from a total base of 1.2 billion telephone users, are accessing the latest generation networks today, according to the minister.
