Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has announced that it is implementing a global temporary “pause” that will ban the teenagers’ access to its cast of AI characters. The move comes as the social media giant is looking to change its generative AI strategy to prioritise parental oversight and safety controls after pressure from child safety advocates.

“In October, we shared that we’re building new tools to give parents more visibility into how their teens use AI, and more control over the AI characters they can interact with.
