British regulator opens investigation into WhatsApp, what Meta said
British broadcasting and telecoms regulator Ofcom has announced that it has launched a formal investigation into Meta Platforms. The probe will specifically target the accuracy of data provided by, WhatsApp, its instant messaging subsidiary. The regulator aims to finds whether the tech giant misled it during a critical market review last year.
According to a report by news agency Reuters, the investigation marks an escalation in regulatory scrutiny of Meta in the UK. Ofcom can impose fines if it finds that the information provided by the tech company was intentionally or negligently incomplete.
