India’s chip ambitions set to take wing with Micron’s Gujarat plant coming onstream next month

American memory chipmaker Micron Technology will start commercial production of semiconductors at its $2.75-billion plant in Sanand, Gujarat, by February-end, IT and electronics minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. In an interview with ET’s Sruthijith KK on the sidelines of the WEF in Davos, Vaishnaw also said India’s growing strategic alliances with the US, the EU, Germany, Japan and South Korea are critical to securing semiconductor value chains, particularly for access to rare earth minerals.
