Microsoft Teams, Outlook back online after 8-hour outage; thousands affected

Microsoft Teams and several other Microsoft 365 services limped back online January 23 evening after an eight-hour outage that left thousands of workers staring at error messages instead of their inboxes.

The trouble started around 11:40 a.m. Pacific time. Outlook took the hardest hit, with nearly 15,000 frustrated users flooding Down Detector at the peak. Microsoft 365, Teams, and the admin center also went dark, turning what should have been a normal Thursday into an unexpected digital detox for businesses across North America.
