India delicenses lower 6 GHz band for faster Wi-Fi at homes

NEW DELHI: The Centre has delicensed the lower portion (5925-6425 MHz) of 6 GHz spectrum band for enabling indoor Wi-Fi use, which would also unlock Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 benefits for home users.
The development comes close on the heels of a meeting on Tuesday evening, chaired by the Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia, permitting lower 6GHz spectrum band for the use of Wi-Fi services in India.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the government notified the “Low Power and Very Low Power Wireless Access Rules, 2026.”
