Amazon is planning a direct challenge to Walmart and Target. The e-commerce giant is preparing to launch a massive new brick-and-mortar retail store near Chicago. Earlier this week, officials in Orland Park, Illinois, approved plans for a 228,000-square-foot mega store that rivals the size of a modern Walmart Supercenter.
According to a report by Business Insider, the facility will be a departure from Amazon’s existing physical retail experiments, moving beyond the grocery-centric focus to the “hypermarket” model.
