SIM-binding and CNAP rules coming to India: How they will impact mobile users

Government of India is planning new rules to make mobile phone use safer. These changes are expected to start in 2026 and are meant to stop online scams and fake calls. The two main steps include SIM-binding for messaging apps and a new caller name display system called CNAP.
SIM-Binding- What It Means?
Today, many messaging apps continue to work even if the SIM card is removed from the phone. Scammers use this trick by registering an app with an Indian number and then throwing away the SIM, while still running fraud from another place.
