Samsung plans India technology, manufacturing hub under PLI scheme

New Delhi: Samsung has applied under the production-linked incentive scheme for components to make mobile-phone screens and sought an extension of its approval under the smartphone PLI programme, as the Korean major looks to make India a technology and manufacturing hub.

JB Park, president and chief executive of Samsung’s southwest Asia region, said the company is also open to sourcing chips from India if the price is competitive, boosting the country’s efforts to become a major stakeholder in the semiconductor supply chain.
