‘Godfather of AI’ to engineers: Computer Science degree will remain valuable for a longtime, just learn to …
Geoffrey Hinton, widely known as the ‘Godfather of AI’ has once again shared an advice for engineers and students. Hinton has asked the students and engineers to not give up computer science degrees, despite the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence which is reshaping the coding industry. Speaking to Business Insider in an interview Hinton stressed on the fact that computer science degree is not limited to just programming. “Many people think a CS degree is just programming or something. Obviously, just being a competent mid-level programmer is not going to be a career for much longer, because AI can do that,” he said.
Hinton also argued that the discipline teaches foundational skills in systems thinking, mathematics, and problem-solving which will remain relevant for decades to come. “A CS degree will be valuable for quite a long time,” Hinton added.
