Spam complaints against unregistered telemarketers decline 33% in October: Trai’s Lahoti

NEW DELHI: The consumer complaints against unregistered telemarketing entities witnessed a near-33% decline to 2.16 lakhs in October this year, from 3.12 lakhs a month earlier, while mobile phone subscribers not reporting spam calls to the distributed ledger technology (DLT) platform remains a “biggest hurdle” to take appropriate regulatory action, a top regulatory official said.

“During the month of September, the complaints against unregistered telemarketers were 3.12 lakhs, which fell to 2.16 lakhs in the following month. In October this year, there were only 39,000 complaints against registered telemarketers as compared to 71,000 in September,” Anil Kumar Lahoti, chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), told ETTelecom.
