US’ Equinix seeks India to allow data centers to avail of dark fiber: Manoj Paul
NEW DELHI: A top executive of the US-listed Equinix said India’s telecom department (DoT) should allow licensed service providers to lease dark fiber to unlicensed entities, as an exponential rise in the consumption of artificial intelligence (AI) is increasing demand for high-bandwidth connectivity between data centers.
“One area where we need further improvement is the deployment of new fiber, where DoT and regulators need to find ways to encourage new players. We need more of that between the data centers and the cable landing stations…this will improve the uptime and reliability of the bandwidth,” Manoj Paul, managing director (MD) of Equinix India, told ETTelecom.
