Netflix strengthens focus on South Indian content as viewership expands

Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content for Netflix India, believes the rise of South Indian storytelling is one of the most exciting creative shifts in the country. In a conversation with ET, she said the region has moved to the center of Netflix’s content strategy because of its vibrant talent pool, rich narratives and strong audience demand.

“South India and particularly Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam have emerged as very strong focus areas for us and growth markets,” Shergill said. She explained that while the South has always produced exceptional filmmakers, streaming finally unlocked their reach.
