RIL shares rise as Jio adds highest subscriber base with 20 lakh additions in October

Shares of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) climbed 0.8% to their day’s high of ₹1,579.95 on the BSE on Monday, December 1, after its telecom arm, Reliance Jio, posted the highest subscriber additions in the country for October. According to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio added 19.97 lakh mobile subscribers in October, taking its total user base to 48.47 crore, up from 48.27 crore in September.

This marks the highest gain among all telecom operators in India during the month, further consolidating Jio’s lead in the wireless subscriber market. The data shows that Bharti Airtel also witnessed a strong addition of 12.52 lakh wireless users, taking its total to 39.36 crore in October, compared to 39.24 crore in September.

State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) added 2.69 lakh mobile users during October 2025. This brought its subscriber count to 9.25 crore at the end of the month.

In contrast, Vodafone Idea saw a decline in its mobile user base. The telco lost 20.83 lakh wireless subscribers in October, with its overall user count falling to 20.07 crore from 20.28 crore in September.

The overall telecom market in India also expanded. The country’s total telephone subscriber base increased to 123.1 crore as of October 2025, comprising 118.4 crore wireless subscribers and 4.6 crore wireline users.

Broadband services saw moderate growth as well. The total number of broadband subscribers rose to 99.98 crore by the end of October, up from 99.56 crore in September, reflecting a growth rate of 0.42%.
