Hyderabad scam: Telecallers trained to mimic Australian accent pull off Rs 10cr fraud; ex-students recruited

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad police officers were taken aback when they raided a fake call centre run by cyber criminals Saturday. The telecallers were meticulously trained to mimic the Australian accent. They knew how to drop the ‘r’ sound at the end of words and to take on a high-rising intonation at the end of sentences.

In the process, they had carved out a niche market for themselves and quietly siphoned crores from unsuspecting victims halfway across the world. On Saturday, nine telecallers, including six from West Bengal, were arrested for running the elaborate cross-border scam, even as the two kingpins from Khammam remain on the run.
