AI power struggle: Why infrastructure has become more important than AI models
Artificial intelligence (AI) was introduced as a field of study in 1956 but it was November 2022 when the world witnessed the sudden rise of this niche technology that a majority of people didn’t really know existed. ChatGPT brought Generative AI into people’s hands and they started to understand the profound capabilities of the technology, which has been equated with the invention of electricity and the internet itself.
Between late 2022 and 2023, it was believed the AI revolution was purely a ‘battle of wits’. It appeared to be a software race defined by elegant code, innovative architectures and the number of parameters in a Large Language Model (LLM).
