Chip war intensifies: Nvidia insists dominance as Google and Meta explore in-house AI chips

Nvidia is pushing back firmly against growing questions about its long-established dominance in the AI hardware market, insisting that its GPUs remain “a generation ahead of the industry” even as Google’s in-house AI chips gain momentum and Meta is reportedly evaluating whether to adopt them in its data centres. The developments have fuelled concern among investors and analysts, leading to a three per cent drop in Nvidia’s shares as speculation grows that two of the world’s biggest AI platforms could begin shifting portions of their compute workloads away from Nvidia’s GPUs.
