Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has issued a stern warning to social media platforms such as Meta and YouTube, stating they must take responsibility for the content published on their sites amidst a global crisis of trust fueled by deepfake and AI-generated material. Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, Vaishnaw stressed that platforms must respect the social structures and laws of the countries in which they operate.

“Everyone is worried over the significant influence social media is having on trust between institutions and society,” the minister said, as per a report by The Economic Times.
